There is no question that social media has become and extremely important part of the process of marketing and promoting business. In this article, I'm going to be talking about the pros and cons of the most popular and useful social media platforms available.

Facebook

Pros:

The most popular network

This is without a doubt the greatest strength that Facebook has to offer. It has a huge advantage over the other platforms in regards to the amount of traffic they have.

Great for all niches

Their popularity is also a great indicator of how easy it is to find potential customers for any niche. It doesn’t matter how small your niche is, if there is an audience for it, Facebook has it.

Full of features

Facebook continuously updates their tools and their features in order to help marketers make better use of people.

Cons:

It’s too popular

This might be an advantage in a way, but it’s also a disadvantage for crowded niches. You will have a very hard time reaching a popular status in certain niches.

You need to pay to get good reach

It’s virtually impossible for an average business page to become popular without boosting posts with paid ads, fortunately the ads are quite affordable.

Long learning curve

The truth is that learning how to use Facebook for marketing requires a good number of things to be learned before you can do it efficiently.

Twitter

Pros:

Effective Ad Platform

Twitter is becoming a more powerful ad platform.

Practical messaging system

The system used by Twitter is very practical offering the ability to post without hassles.

Mobile friendly

The use of Twitter for mobile is widespread making it easy for you to target all audiences.

Cons:

Very limited messaging

You need to learn to use very small and limited language, which is practical but also problematic when you need to write in detail about something.

Not as versatile

There are not as many features found on the platform without having to download add-ons.

Difficult to launch

While it’s not as popular as Facebook, there are plenty of competitors on most popular niches.

LinkedIn

Pros:

Professional network

The best platform for people looking to network with people involved in any kind of business.

Meet influencers

You will have a better chance of meeting up with influencers if you use this network.

Become part of a community

LinkedIn encourages professionals to join groups that are targeted for their specific industries and this is a great way to network.

Cons:

Not very popular with the general public

LinkedIn is not popular with people who are not looking to network with other professionals. There is very little room for entertainment talk in this network.

Not ideal for some niches

There are many niches that will not find this to be an ideal marketing location.

Very serious

You might find yourself the target of a lot of criticism if you don’t keep things in a very serious tone.

Instagram

Pros:

Simple interface

Very convenient and easy to use.

Marketing with images

Great way to use visual marketing.

The king of mobile networks

A perfect way to reach a large mobile audience.

Cons:

Harder to update

You need to come up with new images for each post because this is the main feature in the platform.

Only for mobiles

This is not a network with an official platform for desktop users.

Crowded niches

The top niches are heavily crowded.

Pinterest

Pros:

Image driven

Great for posting images and collecting important data.

Perfect for niche targeting

This is a perfect platform for targeting certain niches and mostly for the female audiences.

Easy to use

The Pinterest interface has always been extremely easy to use.

Cons:

Not so popular

This is not as popular as the top platforms we have mentioned.

Hard to monetise

Pinterest is not as easy to monetise as Twitter or Facebook.

Limited niches

You won’t find the same level of niche engagement as you do in other platforms.

Snapchat

Pros:

Convenient

Fast and powerful marketing.

Gaining momentum

Snapchat is becoming extremely popular in many niches.

Millennial powered

The main audience for Snapchat is the millennial generation.

Cons:

Not so popular with professionals

Not taken too seriously by many business ventures.

Limited marketing

There are not so many features on this platform that you could find useful.

Only for mobiles

This is a mobile-only platform.
