How to (quickly and easily) repurpose your content online

Getting the maximum impact out of every piece of content you produce

One thing I’ve heard from a few business owners lately is that things have been a little bit quieter than usual. Things seem to be picking up again slowly, but it’s without a doubt, been a very trying time for many of us.

A lot of business owners decided to use this time to look at their business. It has forced many businesses to switch the way they do things (i.e. restaurants offered take away, online courses boomed etc.).

A lot of my clients approached me, asking what they should post on their social media during this time. They still wanted a presence online but weren’t sure how to handle it.

This bought up many discussions about repurposing content they already had.

If they had the time, I encouraged them to sit down and write up a few blogs that we could take social media posts from over the next few months.

I’m a big believer in repurposing your content, mainly produced from your blog writing efforts.

The top 4 ways to repurpose your blog

1. Use it for your social media posts: If you struggle for ideas to go with images, or to create social posts that get reactions, read through your blogs. Highlight all the ‘gold nuggets’ and make a spreadsheet with these sentences. You’ll find you’ve shared heaps of tips throughout your blogs, so you can easily turn these into quick snippets. Also, remember to write some social posts about the blogs you’ve written and use these (with a link to your blog) to promote your content.

2. Email newsletters: If you have a database that is expecting E-newsletters from you, you can use your blog as the topic of the month. Summarise what your blog is about in the body of your newsletter and link to it. I add some extra little bits such as my advice for the month, a client of the month and occasionally any special offers I have. It’s one of the best ways for keeping in touch with your clients and having them click through to read your blogs.

3. Share your blog: To start, slightly rejig your blog and post it on LinkedIn. You may wish to shorten it and make sure you change the formatting on your header image and the layout to suit LI. It’s a great way to reach a wider audience. You can also send your blog to sites such as medium.com who are always looking for contributors.

4. Create an eBook: Once you’ve created a few blogs that are on a similar topic, turn them into an eBook. Buddy up with a designer and ask them to make them all ‘beautified’ (using your branding of course) and into an eBook format. You can then use this eBook as a sign-up offer on your website or make it a sellable item for some passive income.

Here’s a quick checklist for other ways to repurpose your content:

  • Create a series of guest blog posts

  • Turn them into a webinar – either host it yourself or ask to hold a webinar for a well-known company/person

  • Create an infographic or chart people can share

  • Use the words and record podcasts or videos

  • Submit them to content communities or ask people if you can be a guest blogger

  • Post to Quora

  • Make a presentation for SlideShare to reach a new audience

  • Go live and create a series of Insta stories or Facebook lives

  • If you’ve interviewed people in your blogs, gather them all together and make an expert advice eBook

  • Break up longer blogs into a series of shorter blog posts
